VARIANCE AND ACCORDANCE

MATHEW 3 AND MATHEW 4 This piece is a continuation of the Variance and Accordance series, a presentation of the difference and accordance between the lives of John the Baptist and Christ, who were seen by the Jews and religious leaders as individuals of opposing provenance, which Christ dismantles with the words "Ye shall know them by their fruits". Presented is a plain paper weaving of the pages from the book of Mathew chapters 3 and 4. The piece presents their Variance in lifestyle and outlook by weaving different texts, making it unreadable. Their accordance comes in the statement, "Repent! For the Kingdom of heaven is near", which they are both recorded to have said. John and Christ. This plain paper weave presents Byzantine illustrations of Christ and John, showcasing their Variance and Accordance. Christ showcases the book of Mathew chapter 4, and John, chapter 3. Their call for repentance overlaps, and shows accordance in their message and provenance. The religious leaders thought them to be in opposition, and Christ quickly addresses this matter, by stating "Ye shall know them by their fruit".
